New Age Cultivation
                                                                        By CHRISTINA WON

Nanotechnology is emerging as the latest wave of the 21st century. It has enabled the world to operate as its own entity. Because of increasing population growth and high unemployment rates, many people have moved into unsettled parts of the country. They’ve moved west, north, south, and east into land that has been cultivated in past years. However, due to overuse and a deluge of super pesticides and soil enhancers, abundant farmlands have become grounds for housing construction.
Where have all the farmlands gone? Because of new developments in nanotechnology, there is no longer a need for soil and labor. Nanotechnology has found a way to cultivate super-plants without soil at a faster and more efficient rate. Scientists in Nowhere, Utah, have even developed new breeds of vegetables and fruits using nanotechnology. New methods of farming have allowed the government to focus on feeding the unemployed masses.
However, some environmental groups are protesting that "nanofarming" is not what nature intended. Greepeace activists have growing concerns about the spread of trial crops of these genetically modified plants. Some fear an ever growing risk of contamination with non-modified plants and long term threats to human health. Due to these new fears, the federal government is trying to improve safety over genetic engineering and biotechnology. However, the government is optimistic and continuing to fund this type of new age farming.
