Campaign Finance Committee Chosen
                                                    by Laura Polstein

June 7, 2099- Thousands of well-dressed men and women gathered in Washington today to celebrate the announcement of the new members of the Campaign Finance Committee for 3000. The people chosen in today’s ceremonywill be particularly important, as they are to make up the CFC for thefirst year of the next century. Since its founding, the CFC, whose members bear the responsibility of funding the election campaigns, has become oneof the most powerful groups in our country. The CFC was created in 2010 in response to a government plan to publicly finance election campaigns. It is an age old tale by now, the people rose up and called for the creation of a Committee which would put the power back in the hands of those who deserve it. Thus the CFC was born. Each election year, new members are chosen froma pool of about 500 applicants. Requirements to serve on the CFC include minimum annual salary of 10M; control of corporation whose earnings are in the top tenth percentile for that year; and ownership of at least one ofthe “modern technologies” (information, reproduction, age extension, and organ cloning). Applications are due by February 1 and the new members are then picked by the members of the CFC from the last year. The CFC meets once a month to allocate funds to the candidates of their choosing. Those candidates are then elected, of course.
The members for this year were released to the press over the weekend, but
to recap they are: Paul G. Whitting; Garfield H. Kingsley; Jonathan D. Gates; Edward V. Harding; Franklin J. Mann; Robert L. Fedden; Samuel Z. Goldman; David N. Upman; Walter B. Redding; and Nathaniel C. Victor. Seven
of them were CFC alums, while Upman, Mann and Fedden were this year’s newcomers. All showed up for the ceremony today, which was held at the Gatesman Hotel in Washington.
